Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud: The Swiss education and research cloud
From today, Switzerland’s educational and research institutions have access to a new cloud. It offers institutions maximum digital sovereignty and security. Universities were involved in the development – from design and data access to pricing.

When universities outsource sensitive data to the cloud, they need to be able to rely on a trustworthy provider. Â̲èÖ±²¥ collaborated with universities in the development of Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud, a solution that meets the high demands of educational and research institutions for digital sovereignty and security. The foundation's new cloud solution is available from today.
Strengthening the digital sovereignty of universities
The Â̲èÖ±²¥ Foundation Council comprises all Swiss universities, the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH) and their research institutes, the universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education as well as the university cantons and other bodies.
For the development of Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud in collaboration with these institutions, one goal was paramount: to guarantee universities the utmost digital sovereignty. This includes the design and customisation options of Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud, the location and control of data, sovereignty over data access rights, the security and performance of the infrastructure, and strategic alignment and pricing. This was only possible because the educational and research institutions were involved in all relevant cloud development processes.Ìý

Integration into Â̲èÖ±²¥ LAN
Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud is located at Green’s two ISO-certified sites in Dielsdorf and Lupfig. For data transfer via the cloud, universities use their high-performance Â̲èÖ±²¥ LAN network, which Â̲èÖ±²¥ operates for them. Thanks to the integration of locations in Â̲èÖ±²¥ LAN, universities benefit from fail-safe operation, free download, and data transfer rates of one hundred gigabits per second. Â̲èÖ±²¥ LAN is also directly connected to all other European academic networks, making it much easier for universities to collaborate with European researchers.

Step-by-step expansion
Â̲èÖ±²¥ Cloud is gradually replacing the existing Â̲èÖ±²¥ Engines infrastructure and expanding it to include future-oriented solutions. The range of services includes computing, storage and backup services, security, container and application management, networking, observability and more.
